YOUNG AT ART MUSEUM

The Bedlam Lorenz Assembly presents a selection of some of the most vital up and coming and established artists in South Florida, and beyond, who’s work is exemplary of the innovation and talent emerging from the area. The Young at Art Museum’s Knight Gallery houses an overwhelming menagerie of interactive and multimedia sculpture, installation and painting that involve and envelop the viewers within.

Ben Morey’s specially commissioned, three-part interactive “experience” FunVision, which is now a permanent fixture of the museum, invites participants to become part of the piece upon entry by broadcasting their actions upon the game show set portion of the piece to a living room television location on the opposite end of the gallery. Leah Brown and Peter Symons assist in further distorting the projected , 2-D translation of each viewer with “When Does a Mirror Become a Lantern?” as Jessica Laino ties such exhibitionism with introspection and questions of permanence with her intricately mapped sand mandala created to exist only within the timespan of the show.

Within the corridors of the museum Jonathan Rockford’s video installation offers a disorientingly projected vignette of what might be seen out of a car window when traveling through the scenic route of a trip to anywhere looped into infinity, synthesizing a fleeting moment into a forever. In the adjacent gallery one is bathed in Franceso LoCastro’s mesmerizing projections of endless layers of transparent color-planes slicing and shifting into new compositions with each moment. Tina La Porta’s sound-based exploration of living with schizophrenia washes over the spaces commandeered by Martin Casuso’s fiber installations “Mile Long Socks” and “Steer on Stilts” and Pepe Mar’s piecemeal, sculptural deities and Nicole Burko’s haunting oil-painted dream-scapes.
